Dynamite Kiss Penultimate Episode

 Long time no blog,

Last October/November, I started watching the hit K drama, 'Dynamite Kiss.' I was on a drama break after the end of 'Bon Appetite Your Majesty' that was supposed to take me into this year. The team working on Dynamite Kiss and TikTok kdrama reviewers begged to differ. I think I watched the trailer for the show twice and became intrigued once I realized the female lead was not actually a cheating mom but a single lady lying under duress.

Here's a plot summary (source: whats-on-netflix.com

Kong Ji Hyuk, who runs the Mother TF team at a baby products company, mistakenly thinks he’s gotten involved with a married woman after a new temporary employee, Ko Da Rim, kisses him unexpectedly. However, unknown to Kong Ji Hyuk, his new employee lied about her background about having a husband and a child in order to get hired.

Okay so that's the underlying plot, sounds interesting enough, right? What hooked me (and many others) was the first two episodes of the show, in which we met and begin to love the two main characters. More than that I was attracted by their explosive chemistry, hence the English title Dynamite Kiss. Of course, as the show continues the romantic beginnings are cut short by the tension of working together under the misunderstanding that Ko Da Rim is a dirty cheater. This was deepened by Kong Ji Hyuk's own family issues and naturally his deep yearning for Da Rim (which leaves him severely conflicted). There are also plotlines about the company, the MF team's projects, the second lead's love lines, etc.

What is important to note is that these episodes came out biweekly(wed/thurs). So, every week was split into days that I could watch the show and days I could not (what, it's a fun show). I would also rewatch it with my sister, since I introduced it to her. This meant I would watch about 4 episodes a week, but after a few weeks my sister fell quite behind. It came to the last week of airing, and we agreed that I would wait for her to catch up to watch.

Do you think I did? ...... Well, it's been almost two weeks since the show finished on Christmas, and I just watched the penultimate episode. Mind you, this is after (1) I found a Chinese drama and watched all 26 episodes, and (2) my sister gave me permission to watch the last two episodes without her. Yes, binging shows is bad, and yes, I told my sister I wouldn't, but I thought just one episode wouldn't hurt. Also in my defense, all the TikTok girlies were saying how disappointing the last two episodes were, compared to the first two. I found it difficult to resist finding out how they could go from so hyped to so bitter about how it all went down.

What do I think after watching episode 13, there are a lot of plot points that I wonder how the writers will bring everything to a close. Examples - What is going on with Jihyuk's mom's plans for the company and divorce, how did Darim sell her house so fast, what is going to happen to the team that won't feel super depressing? Are these plot points or just things I am wondering about, potentially. But I will say that I liked how the show still found moments to show the main leads cute, and silly sides among the stressful ending of the show. Lowkey the whole show's plot has been dragging them through the trenches. I am happy they can pick pears and be childish even with people plotting on their downfall. The preview for the last episode looked kind of crazy, and sure they didn't need to put him getting hit by a car, but this is a kdrama and something out of the box has to happen right.

I'll take my happy ending to go please.
